The conversion took place in the 90s and rumors of him joining the Nation of Islam even did the rounds. He has denied such allegations to date. The man doesn’t follow the Quran to the letter, but likes the aspect that focuses on just him and God. We aren’t sure if he cherry picks the aspects of the religion that are convenient for him, but we are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

If we are to take his glittering success on the basketball court into account, it certainly appears that his faith has served him well.

Although his career currently appears to be in cruise control, Akon has given a plethora of number one singles in the past. Everyone everywhere wanted to collaborate with him because everything he touched turned into gold. The singer is a follower of Islam and uses that to justify his desire to have multiple wives. He isn’t a stranger when it comes to talking about polygamy. Rumors about him having as many as five wives have been floating around for quite some time now.
