6. Jaxa Hypsersonic Plane
Japan’s Aerospace Exploration Agency (Jaxa) is developing the Hytex – its own hypersonic airliner, intended to cross the Pacific Ocean in under two hours, and at Mach 5 speeds. Jaxa has already successfully managed to operate a hypersonic turbojet in Mach 4 propulsion wind tunnel experiments. A Mach 5 class hypersonic passenger aircraft would be exposed to very high temperatures, requiring the development of a new engine and a heat-resistant structure.
